Raku firing is one of Becki's favorite firing techniques. It involves firing a pot quickly to 1600 degrees and then quickly removing it from the kiln. The pot is placed in a container holding combustibles that ignite and are quickly smothered with a lid, which creates a reduction chamber where the pot takes on a variety of irridescent colors. Depending on the glazes used, the resulting surface color can range from metallic silver, blue-green, or copper to more muted tones as seen in this vase.

Raku pots are not food safe and cannot hold liquid, so no water should be placed in this vase. Dried flowers can be beautifully displayed in it, or this vase looks lovely with no other adornment.
